Wow. Some of the nicest 64-65 Elcaminos I have ever seen sell in the low 20's and they were cars with probably 40K tied up in them.
I LOLed at the very expensive wheels comment. Thats about the cheapest set of 17" 5 spokes made.
$6750 I see maaaaaybe 3K worth of parts in that thing left and that's stretching it. Few people want LT1 stuff any more with LS stuff being so popular.

Might not be. My dad is in the salvage business and I have seen similar stuff in the past. Most people are honest with Hagarty and similar Co's but if the policy was for 67K they would just pay it.

I'm not going to say that the car was worth that... but hagerty & grunty are agreed value so i'm sure he got it.
If it had really nice paint & interior before hand it may not have taken too much arm twisting to get them to accept that value.
Think about what it realistically costs to have a car restored. Not to do it yourself, and not to buy one done, but to HAVE it done. He could easily have had $60k in it- probably more, and i doubt hagarty blinked an eye writing the check.
I've got my cutlass insured for considerably more(though not $60k more...LOL) than i could buy another one to replace it for- but its one of those things, you may find a cheaper car that could "replace it"- but I doubt all the little details would be the same, and those cost time and money to duplicate- and for insurance purposes I calculate my time at $150/hour shop rate.
