Smile Looking to Track Down my old 1968 Olds Cutlass Convertible

I'm a newbie here on the Classic Oldsmobile forum. I just found my original Bill of Sale for my 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible, which I bought in my freshman year of college. It was a turquoise blue, 350 Rocket, with black interior and white convertible top. The Bill of Sale has the VIN number on it and I want to start a search to see if it still exists, and if so, how I would go about finding it and it's current owner. I loved this car so much, and was heartbroken when I had to sell it during the first gas shortage in the early 1970's. I currently own a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS, and a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, but have dreamed for years of finding and re-acquiring my original 68 Cutlass.

The VIN is 336678M205671 if anyone has any ideas on how to find it, or if it even still exists. Would appreciate any ideas. Please feel free to email me at cliff_costello@hotmail.com if you have any ideas.

Thanks for any help and glad to find this group.
Cliff

Some states protect this information while others do not. Those which do allow you to search charge a fee. It appears you're in New York State. Have you tried the NY DMV website? Might get lucky.

https://dmv.ny.gov/dmv-records/searching-records

EDIT: Buggers, I guess this site won't work in your case because you don't have a 17-character VIN. Bummer.
Vehicle identification number - May only be searched using a 17-character VIN
