Looking for Phoenix/AZ resources

Thanks for reading. I’m looking for a few resources in Phx AZ. Particularly engine rebuilds, and electrical.

I currently have a 330. Did a compression tear. Came back at 90 there were two though that came in at 60. So, I’m thinking it needs a rebuild. Does anyone know someone in the area? Possibly even rough cost estimate.

Additionally, I got the car started and did my first run around the block. While driving my speedo started wigging out. When I touched it, it gave me a good shock. I’m thinking I have a short. So, with that said I might be interested in having looked at, and possibly just rewire the entire car.

Any resource would be greatly appreciated.

Mach development in Maricopa City, Zimmerman Engine in north Phoenix. Both have been around for years and have worked on older vehicles.

These folks were highly recommended by a coworker who had them build multiple Ford engines over the years. He grew up in the valley and said they have a really good reputation.

Chucks Speed is a great place. SunnySlope Auto as well, but they are into Fords heavily. For me I will be assembling my 455 and have WFO do the machine work. He is a racer friend of mine. He will do want you tell him but he mainly builds LS motors

greulichengines.com for Olds engine rebuild,

tonysrocketgarage.com for general Olds repair. Both located in Phoenix.

So I'm in need of an overhaul on my 350 Olds. Was driving to the Williams Rt 66 car show and it developed a bad tick. Got worse and by the time I pulled into a gas station near Flagstaff, she died. I see some oil leaking from the head gasket, some savings on the dipstick. I'm expecting to need a full rebuild.

I checked with Duffee- they are now closed to the public. I'm follow up with Chucks and Mach, they both seem like they can do a good shop and the engine-type detailing required.

Can anyone provide a better link for Gruelick- there are several of them across the valley, I'm not sure which location people are referring to. Also- SunnySlope doesn't have a website, I guess just stop by and chat with them?

Thanks for any insight.

I don't know anyone that pulls and does machine work. I work at WFO engine part time and can do the work. I'm guessing we are aboare30 days out. Parts could be an issue. We do not pull motors. Zimmerman Engine, Bill's Engine Mesa Az, Mach in Maricopa City. All do machine work and assembly.

For starters, contact Dan at http://www.azoldsclub.com you'll likely find guys in that club have their favorite shops depending what part of town they live in. Ditto for contacting Tony at http://tonysrocketgarage.com/

For engine rebuilds, I used Ed Smith at 5 Star Engines in Glendale (Ed does the older engines no one else want to touch).
For electrical, try Elliot's Auto Electric on Cave Creek Rd. in Phoenix, or Gary at GenStar in Glendale.

There's a robust classic car culture in Phoenix, keep asking around for references.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks for all the leads so far - I'm seeing some shops listed that I did not find by simple Google searching.

I plan to start contacting them, but likely will have to go with a place like Chuck's that can do engine removal and rebuild. I don't really have a sufficient garage set-up right now to pull/reinstall the motor easily so will probably have to farm out the entire project (which adds $$$). Worst case I could manage an engine swap, but it'd be uncovered in my driveway in summer AZ heat- never a fun prospect.

I'll be sure to relay my experience. I'll also check previous build threads or start one to cover this engine overhaul.

Thanks for all the support!

Chucks is a good choice. They are very professional and a clean organized shop.

I also spoke to Tony at Tony's Rocket Garage. It was great to talk to a shop that specialized in Olds and has very current information on rebuild/parts costs, pros/cons of different manufacturer parts. He strongly recommended upgrading to a roller cam, as people have been reporting quality issues with newly sourced flat tappet cams. I plan to swing by his shop and meet check it out in person.
