Looking for....Engine mounts

As some of you might be aware, the picture on the left is not my car (anymore) but my friend from high school got her from me over 20 years ago, lost her, and got her back about 9 months ago. He is getting her back on the road! It is still a work in progress and should be road worthy soon.

He gave me a call this afternoon and is having trouble finding motor mounts for his SBO install in the 71 Cutlass S. Anyone know where:

a) He can find them new
b) Anyone on here that might have a set of NOS or used in reasonable shape
c) Are there any compatible motor mounts that would work that are non-Olds, i.e. Buick, Chevy, etc.

He lives up in OR now and I have encouraged him to join this forum and he might do so soon, but in the mean time, if anyone has any information, shoot me a message.

Thanks everyone.

P.S. Attached the latest pics he sent me a bit ago. Hopefully I will be able to get a project soon.

I checked around and these are all that I came up with. I was an idiot, and didn't mark them, so I don't remember.

Hopefully someone else will chime in and help. These are frame side mounts, the block side are rubber.

I do know that buick and chevy stuff won't work. And small block mounts use small block frame pads and mounts, and Big blocks use big block frame pads and big block mounts.

I also edited your thread title to actually read what it is you are looking for.

Is he looking for the frame mounts or the engine side mounts? The Engine side mounts are available at just about any parts store. Hell I think my store has them on the shelf.

I don't know. I just assumed he need frame side, because the engine side mounts are available anywhere like you said.

When I first read this thread last night I thought he was wanting the engine side with the rubber blocks. That is the part that normally needs replaced. Then I saw the “NOS or good used” and thought OMG! GM did a major recall on motor mounts in 1972 because of mount failures. The last thing you want is an old style mount without the interlock feature.

I was working at a Chevy/Olds dealer during the recall and we were installing a cable hold down in the event of a mount breaking. There were several accidents and lawsuits because the engine would jump up and bind the throttle linkage, putting cars through store fronts and whatever.

When a car came in we would do a quick check for broken mounts. Raise the hood, get behind the wheel, shift into drive with the brakes locked and give it some gas. Repeat in reverse to check the other side. If the engine raised up a little the mount was broke and got replaced. One day I was doing this and the mount looked to holding at first, but under stress it broke, sending pieces of plastic fan shroud all over. Good thing the customer was standing a few feet away instead of next to the car!

So please guys, if you run across a NOS mount without an interlock, don't use it.

I found a picture of the cable hold downs on a Camaro forum if you never seen one.

That was also the reason GM went to cables instead of rods for the gas pedals!
I had a BB Impala SS that when the mount broke, the engine torqued to the right, and opened the carb!!
Happened to me in stopped traffic, and I threw it in neutral!!
New interlock mount 1 hr later.
Can't imagine the chaos if that'd happened to a woman!!!!!!

You mean like Shirley Muldowney?

Seriously, I know more incompetent male drivers than female.

And you are correct about the cable linkage. This is also why there are different BBO and SBO mounts in the A-body for 1969, though by the 1970 model year even the SBO factory mounts are interlocking.

Joe - it was scary when the posi with poliglass overcame the front tires - during rush hour, stopped with a car 4ft. in front of you!!
Left 2 ft. of skid/burnout marks!
Not counting my shorts!

Maybe Rickman is thinking about the chaos that would occur at the dealership when the lady came in, mad as Hell, after the experience.

I have no idea what those mounts are from.
More of an example pic I suppose, to determine which side that was needed.

Sorry if I just confused everyone.
