Lock Washers

Why would anyone use lock washers on bell housing to block bolts? It is impossible to use a power handle in these tight places. I now have to remove the trans and engine as one unit, gonna be heavy! Hoping for the best,

You can use a 9/16 swivel socket with long extensions to get the top 4. Reach from the back of the transmission. Have a second person to guide the socket into place. The lock washers should not be holding you up that bad.

If you do remove the transmission and engine as a unit, removing the torque converter to flex plate bolts while it is still in the car would be easier then when the unit is on the ground or swinging from a hoist.

If you have the hood off the 2 top bolts are reachable from the top with a box wrench, I have 2, 48" extensions and impact swivel sockets that work well also.

I use end wrenches on the top bolts, but I have long skinny arms and I'm 6'5"s and can reach standing on the floor.

I usually remove the upper bolts from above along with all the other top side stuff.
