I called one of the auto stores here and they said they don't carry them and that he didn't think any one in town would, the dude sounded like a young kid and didn't know what he was doing , i should of had enough sence to call another auto store instead of just jumping on and asking a silly **** question but hey thanks eric

Would it kill you to be a little more specific here? There are several different light switches on a car. Just these few come to mind:

headlight switch
dimmer switch
door jamb switch
dome light switch
glovebox light switch
trunk light switch
map light switch

And this doesn't include other switches that control lighting like the turn signal switch and four-way flasher switch.

Some of these you can probably easily get at an auto parts store, but others may be more difficult to find.

What you should do is just go to the chain's website. All of the major auto parts chains have websites where you can input the car you have and then search for the parts you need. I do this all the time, jot down their part numbers, and then go to the store and buy them.

They'll usually want to run through the search again to verify the part numbers, and that's ok because it confirms my search. Plus, you can price-shop doing it this way as what Autozone versus NAPA versus O'Reilly versus whatever charges for something can vary quite a bit from store to store.

Now I'd be very curious as to what kind of switch you're talking about as I checked the Autozone website just now for an '87 Cutlass, and all of the switches below are listed as being available either in stock or can be ordered.

headlight switch
dimmer switch
door jamb switch

I think these are the most common types of switches people are looking for, but apparently not you. So what switch, exactly, are you looking for?
