Kick down help

Gen light comes on
Kick down does not work
Lights dim a little

Should I replace alternator or regulator, or both to look after problem? Is there something else I should be looking at?

Thanks,
Ted

Ted, does the light go out when the rpm is increased? The lights will dim at idle vs at speed depending on load.

The kickdown issue is not related. What trans do you have?

What kind of trans? The TH350 uses a detent cable, it's non-electrical. The TH400 uses a kickdown switch and a solenoid in the transmission. My TH350 recently wasn't kicking down properly, I found that the detent cable wasn't being pulled fully on WOT. I adjusted it so it was pulled to it's limit at WOT, and I got kickdown back. I had a problem with a TH400 once, where the solenoid in the transmission broke. In my case, it was ALWAYS kicked down, and wouldn't shift properly.

TH400
Two problems occurred at once. The gen light came on , took car out for a tour, and it would not kick down.Next day , the gen light was off, took it out for a rip and the kick down worked. That is where my i sit with the car now.

Ted

And, the gen light ,when on , does not dim regardless or RPM....
