Just got offered $5000 for my 72' Cutlass S

I don't know what to do. The body is pretty solid it's a all original car with 78,000 miles. Engine rebuilt 4 Years ago. 350 rocket. Solid underneath.

Bucket seats floor shifter.

What do you guys think... sell?

Only you can decide. Do you really want the car? Or do want something else?

If you want to get rid of it, and have sellers remorse, could you replace it for 5000...I don't know. You might not be able to find one as solid.

Those are things that I would ask myself in the same situation.

I don't understand why you need input from anyone whether to sell. Why did you buy it in the first place? If it was to flip and you'll make a profit, go for it. If you bought it to drive and enjoy? Do it. If it's a project car? Start your project. Honestly I don't know why you're asking this question to a bunch of Folks who clearly advocate oldsmobile ownership.

I agree with all of the above, but in my opinion it's worth almost twice that number. It's worth paying $5k to a flipper, because there is a few grand to be made easily as is. Unless I am missing something.

Sure the market is still bad, but they damn sure aren't making anymore...

Maybe a bit of frustration with older cars, he may feel he has bitten off more than he could chew:

What would possess you to sell that for 5k?

spend the 100 on tools to do a tune up.
Learn how
Folks a lot dumber than you do it every day, I assure you.
An HEI conversion is also pretty easy, one wire to run.

AH, the satisfaction.
You will get many offers to buy that car over the years.

I agree with everyone. I did buy it As a project but something hit me in the head when I got the offer. Usually I hold on to any classic I get whether it's rusted to pieces or fully restored.

Thank you guys for making it a little more clear. I can't get anything better for 5k. I decided I won't sell it. Thank you all.

So Ummm was the motor rebuilt 4 or 10 years ago then? Either way 5k sounds a little low to let it go.

Honestly I don't even know I've been hearing both but I took the top end of the engine apart and saw racing performance parts in it so it makes sense. Haven't seen the block and pistons. Looks like a good blue olds paint job.

Blue??
Are you sure the last guy didn't drop a 455 in it?
Not that a 350 couldn't be painted blue, but, correct color is gold for a small block.

I wouldn't sell ANY nice, original low mileage 2 door Cutlass for $5K.

check the block ID numbers/letter[s] atop timing housing, between intake and water pump.

395558-2 = 350
blah blah blah 3B = late smogger 350

396021-F = 455

All others are FAR less common

From the pics I have seen you could get more. If you are afraid of throwing money at it to get it to run well set a limit on what you are willing to put in it. I don't think your troubles with it are going to cost you a lot. For a few hundred or less you can get the tune-up done and get it to run better, evaluate the engine condition then decide where to go with it. By the looks of it (what we have seen) if 5 G is a profit over what you gave for it , you got a deal.
Learning how to do what you can yourself saves big money. I could never afford this hobby if I paid someone to do the work, but I got experience. A lot of it ain't that hard.

Who ever painted it made it blue. Idk and I know it's gold as the correct color.

Thank you as does yours. She has a few problems but nothing that can't be fixed with time and money. Most of the work now is cosmetic.

Back to yours, $5K is a real low-ball price! I agree with folks on here, just find someone respectable to tune it up and evaluate things, then take it from there. If you want to sell, it will likely fetch quite a bit more.

Yeah I just replaced the fuelfilter and it runs great now. Still hesitates at acceleration but it needs a tune up. I still drive it it's able to be driven. So until spring imam get wires right now and then let a shop do a car rebuild since it does leak abit.
