Just checking

The person I bought this car from bought it from the person who filed for salvage title and did some questionable repairs my seller most likely did not notice. My seller bought lots of parts for it and I am certain he is honest but I have to have this car inspected by the salvage title inspectors so to make me feel more comfortable please see if you notice anything wrong. The floor pan was replaced but riveted in as well as having edges that do not line up with the new pan. Obviously that will have to be redone correctly. I will include pictures from the VIN plate and Cowell tag. Please advise me on any problems before I spend tons of money trying to save this car only to have the inspector at the highway patrol Salvage title inspection station reject it due to VIN rivet or Cowell tag issues.

If you are thinking that the VIN somehow must match the body number on your trim tag, put your worries aside. It would be an incredibly odd coincidence if the two numbers matched in any way.

I can't read your VIN with the pictures you posted. It should look something like

3J67 (a letter for an engine code - H, J, K, M, U, V or X) 2M------ where

3 = Oldsmobile
J67 = Cutlass Supreme convertible
Engine codes: H = 350ci/2bbl single exhaust, J = 350ci/2bbl dual exhaust, K = 350ci/4bbl single exhaust, M = 350ci/4bbl dual exhaust, V = 455ci/4bbl dual exhaust (4spd transmission), and X = 455ci/4bbl W-30 (4spd or THM 400)
2 = model year = 1972
M = assembly plant = Lansing MI
The dashes indicate the assembly plant sequence number

That's about all I can think of.

rivits from the bottom are correct and they look like stainless..and doesnt look like they where messed with to me..

there was one assy line where one rivit is in one direction and the other is in the opposite direction..well documented and many many cars show up with it

the trim tag has nothing to do with the legality of the car

if youre worried, pull the passenger inner fender out, and pull the HVAC box off...there will be a CON-VIN under there..they should match,,,if they do..id run it thru

Here is what your trim tag says.

ST 72 = style/model year = 1972

34267: 3 = GM division = Oldsmobile, 42 = model series = Cutlass Supreme, 67 = body type = convertible
LAN = assembly plant = Lansing MI

496720 BDY = Fisher body number (has no relation to the VIN)

TR 977 = interior color = white

65 A PNT = lower body color (65) and convertible top color (A) = flame orange for a lower body color, with a white convertible top
05D = time build code = May (05), 4th week of that month (D), 1972

A65 = option code for front seat type (I'm not sure on this but I suspect it is a bench seat with an arm rest; I've got another book that says bucket seats).
