If it is a convertible I would be interested in placing it on my list. I don't track the hard tops or post cars. What I usually like is the name of previous owners 4 speed or auto vin and whatever you have to document the car a copy would be nice. The list is almost 30 years old now. I did not touch it for about 15 years and just recently started updating it again. Many of my friend's cars have moved to large collections. Congratulations on the restoration and enjoy your car. It is called "Burgundy Mist"...I have a 4 speed convert this color with parchment interior.....it is not a W-30 however....DAMN....

Even if that's what he is saying, the thing is that we don't know the color distribution for the 96 cars built, so there's no saying whether they'd follow the popular color patterns or not.

Anyway, I have 1970 extra-cost color production figures and just over 15% were Rally Red, Sebring Yellow, Galleon Gold, or Aegean Aqua. That's for total 4-4-2s, so there's no saying what the distribution would be for the 96 cars - certainly applying the 15% would be incorrect.

 

so all the extra cost colors in total were only 15%, wonder which one was ordered the most often.

By the way, colors for GTOs exist. Burgundy is one of the rarer colors.

 

There's a legit,documented 70 442 4-spd convertible in town,that is burgundy mist,with black bench & OAI.Well,at least two of the 442 4-spd convertibles were burgundy mist.The one I owned was matador red,with white stripes & white buckets,came with drum brakes in the front,and was built in Linden,NJ. There is another 70 442 vert 4-spd in PA that is sherwood green,with gold stripe,tan top,and dark saddle bucket interior,currently a basket case,but there.There's your 70's earth tones.

Thats just like SS Chevelles and Camareos... WAY more clones than were ever built..almost everyone you see now is an SS..the same for 442s.. WAY too many clones that are being passed off as the real deal...my friend has a very nice 442 car..BUT if you run the #s. all it is is a 350 2bbl cutlass s car..BUT has all the correct "things and gadgets" to fool you...

 

My friends 1970 442 W30 convertible is an automatic. His 1969 442 W30 convertible is a 4 spd. I think the made 91 of the 69's and 150 of the 70 W30 auto's. Sorry for any confusion.

Just as an FYI on auction values, the highest-recorded sales price at auction for that car seems to be the Feb. 28, 2008 sale of a '70 442 W-30 convertible for $206,700 (with fees).

There's not a whole lot of info on the car other than it came from the G. Potter King collection that was sold at the Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ.

The price guide, however, lists the value of a needs-nothing 1970/71 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible (1 of 374 built) to be between $150,000 and $300,000 with a 25% "bump" for the four-speed.

I don't know enough about the car(s) to offer insight beyond the usual "what the market will bear," but with their barn door-sized ($150k-worth) gap in the "book values," perhaps the guide doesn't either...

My buddy has 4, yes 4 W-30 4 speed 442 converts. One is a survivor. The rest are restored. I bet he's happy to hear this. He just sold a 70 Hemi Cuda convert. One of 9 automatics. 19k original miles. 1.7 million. Think I'm kidding? Check out recent sales. His collection is mind boggling.

Yes....those are the cars. I don't think the Stohlman car was featured in the article (not 100% sure and the mag is buried somewhere around here). The article appeared in the unfortunately now-defunct Musclecar Enthusiast Magazine. We trailered three from TX and the Stohlman car came down from Chicago.

Here's a pic of the Matador Red car....low miles with lots of originality to it. Great color combo.

 

There was a '70 W30 convrt. around here about 20 years ago, Matador Red/black/black. Saw it in the spectator parking area at a car show in Fremont Mi. There was a car show that coincided w/the Gerber Baby Food festival, used to be really good and large (700 cars) but was ruined by politics. Never saw the car again.

 

The most common color in 1971 for the w-30 convertible is white with brown next. The most common bogas/replica/"mine is a w-30" is black. This is of 60+ of the 100+ cars made. There are 3 or four so called 1971 w-30 convertibles at the Mecum Indy Auction. The silver one is legit but he said the only sliver in his description and there are two more silver on the list. The w-30 convertibles are popping up everywhere. I am pretty sure Oldsmobile must have counted wrong when they listed their production numbers. I plan to be at that auction to enjoy the show.

I think I've seen only one white '71 W-30 convertible.

And the brown I'm assuming is Sienna and Sable Brown?

There was a guy in my neighborhood when I was growing up who had two 71 W30s, one hardtop one convertible, both silver, he runs Desert Dog Autoparts somewhere in the burbs, have not seen him in years, I heard he sold one of them, wonder if this silver convertible is his, only 110 of those couldn't be many silver ones either.
