Smile Jetaway, Hydramatic

Hello there, Hope all is good with everybody! Been awhile since my last post but have been working on my 58 olds, no excuse i know, must get on more often, Im having an issue with the transmission , It changes from 1st to 2nd real well but wont change into 3rd and 4th unless i take my foot off the gas pedal, Just wondering if these boxes have a vacume modulater valve that may be on its way out? I did have the carbie off for a new kit , could it also be something to do with adjustment with that as well, I havent had the pan off the box yet and checked the screen for gunk, the old girls done 99k and not sure how long it sat for before i got it, could have been a couple of years maybe? Cheers for any replies in advance, Ray.aka piperman60.

If you have one of those hand held suction type guns with a gauge in it you can connect it to the rubber tube coming off the carb going to your vacuum modulator. If you squeeze the trigger to make suction on the gun & the gauge doesn't hold suction your modulator is bad or you have a leak somewhere in the tube.

I would say if you've had the Carb off the engine the adjustment on the throttle pressure rod would need to be tweaked again as these Tranny's are very sensitive to slight movements of the position of that Throttle Pressure Rod. It sort of sounds like it may need to be adjusted to create more pressure from the Carb to the link on the Transmission.
