Jasper Engines Reference on "ReManufactured Engines"
I have a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible. The engine has a weak oil rings and am considering remanufacturing the engine. Jasper Engines in Illinois was recommended to do this job.
Has anyone used Jaspers and would they recommend their services?
Is this the way for me to go with Oil ring issues?

the impression I get is Generic Rebuilds- likely to have #8 heads, at best.
Unless they work over YOUR EXACT engine...
Probably not the best route for a '69 W31 motor...

I work for AT&T in Ct.Our large ford bucket trucks blow engines all the time.Our mechanics are not allowed to rebuild them so they buy remans from ......................you guessed it Jasper.In my opinion POS.They have all sorts of problems and don't last for *****maybe 50,000 miles at best.My 97 ford has a grand total of 112,000 miles on it.It's on it's third engine.Use this information as you see fit.

Do you know something I don't? LOL! He said he has a '72 Cutlass convertible...not a '69 W31 engine.

Some mechanics love them. The're like job security. You pay them to install a Jasper engine that comes with a warranty. The engine will fail within its warranty and you will pay them their labor rate again to replace it.
I have replaced several. Absolute junk. All I needed to hear from a customer was the name Jasper and I pulled it as a whole unit, no need to waste time tearing it down. The farther you tear into one, the more you find wrong.
The're kind of like a Fram oil filter.........very popular, but absolute junk.

I think like with other things, you get what you pay for. If you get a rebuilt motor from them that's cheap, there's a reason it's cheap. They use cheap parts, take shortcuts, and hope that you sell it before the motor blows. Have it built by a reputable shop and you'll have something that's reliable.
