Jack and Jack Stand Placement

Im think about getting a hydraulic jack and jack stands to use qitg my '70 Cutlass Convertible. Where is the best place to position the jack and stands, front & rear? I searcehd some answers here in the forum and have a pretty good idea, but would like confirmation. Is there drawing or anything? Thanks!

Read the owner's manual, it's in there. Short version is there are welded large metal frames behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels to use. There's even round holes for pegs on lifts, that's the precise target.

It really depends on what you're doing and if the jack stands will be in the way. Jacking up the front use the front xmember, jacking the rear use the center of the rear differential. Jack stands can be placed under the frame just behind the front or just forward of the rear tires. They can also be placed under the front lower control arms or under the differential tubes.

Once you have the car on jack stands, try and shake it. It is better for it to fall then than when you are under it.

Check the distance the jack will lift (fully lowered to fully raised), many newer jacks may not give enough.

That is where a section of 4x4 comes in handy.

The Chassis Service Manual shows you EXACTLY where the jacking points are.
