Its Not An Olds, But....

...Did you ever know that a Cadilac had suicide doors. Found this on the local Craigslist. Never even heard of one before. At least not post 1950.

.

Here is a clean one....

Surprised you haven't seen/heard of the Brougham before. It's a sought-after collectable.

And was the most expensive American car produced in 1957. $13k and change. You're not thinking of taking that on as a project, are ya? You need DEEEEEP pockets to do even a driver resto on a Brougham.

Not on a bet.

I could see another $ 50K + to get it close to right. It is rare enough that the seller is asking $ 30K as she sits. The one I posted was offered at $ 130K, I believe and I saw another for around $ 250K.

I look at classics every day and I like Cadillacs ...I just never saw one these. One of the write ups said they even had memory seats. Pretty cool dash, too, I was real close to buying a '68 El Dorado when I bought the Cutlass.

I like damned near all these classics...This one is special.

Also has stainless steel roof I think and very low production! Very desirable! I saw a couple on one of the car shows ( Counting Customs I think, the Collector had two). One restomodded LS powered. Very cool!

Anybody who "restmodded" a 57-8 Cadillac Brougham would likely become suicidal when he discovered what he'd done to its value.

Relatives of the people two doors down had one. I saw it often as a child. The stainless roof was beautiful.

I realized at the time that those people had MONEY to be driving that model.

I seem to recall that there was a set of stainless glasses or shot glasses for the back seat. Four or six, I don't recall.

I think there was a crystal cruet set -- so you and your passengers could enjoy a nip of sherry as you rocketed down the interstate at 85 MPH. Service for six, IIRC.

It depends. From here, it looks like it's all there and moght need only a paint job, from only what we get to see. I'm guessing, more time and work than actual cash

If you could classify it as a production car, it would have been indeed the most expensive. However, it was just as "production" as a custom-made hearse. The Continental Mark II, of whose production ended in '57, was the most expensive American production car to have left an assembly line, during that year

It's kind off funny how all of the auto makers ripped each other off. Those tail fins look an awful lot like the one's that you would find on a '58-'59 Plymouth Fury

Lol , I agree, I'm not into restomodding myself . The collector had two possibly 3 of them ( including ZZTops Cadzilla I think.) Who ever built it made it rare too - I believe it showed up in Hot Rod magazine ( maybe before LS engines.) years ago. None the less he or his heirs could take the hit I imagine. The " to cool "was for the find not the restomod . Although ------

Just saw one of those the other week on TV. It was part of a collection being shared on one of the Sunday shows. The stainless top and memory seats were covered but I didn't recall the suicide doors. Sweet ride!
