installing an olds 350 into a chevelle wagon
my brother had a 77 442 with a nicely built 350 and tranny put in and then he passed away. 28 years later I have the 442 and the only thing that isn't rotting out of it is the engine and tranny. I have a 1972 chevelle concours estate wagon that I am going to put the olds engine and tranny into. I know the motor mounts and fame mounts are different. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Might have to fabricate the frame mounts? I did see someone said that a trans am 1977-1979 I think had the 403 olds and that those mounts might be used but I don't want to buy them only to find out they wont work. Anyway it's too bad the 442 is so far gone, but I have 4 kids and a wife that just love this wagon and I wanted to have a part of my brothers car in it. A fast part of his car any way. I do have a posi rear end that will be going in as well as soon as I get this motor in it.
thanks for any ideas

Start a parts wanted ad for the frame brackets. Since you have both an engine and transmission, the swap should be easy. Basically some minor electrical, exhaust, engine mounts, possibly a drive shaft.
It is rare to see a reverse engine swap with an Olds engine going into a Chevy. I think you can just get the engine mounts for a 72 or earlier Cutlass and it should bolt in the Chevelle. As Eric mentioned, you will need to change some wiring since the starter is on the opposite side from the Chevy and some exhaust hookup. It should be a fairly easy swap. Keep us updated.
this is where I get confused. I can get the motor mounts but the frame mounts is what I am confused about. can I just get motor mounts for a 72 cutlass and the frame mounts for the same 72 cutlass? I will have to relocate the frame mount I assume as the mounting on the engines is different, didn't measure but it looks like it is about and inch off.
I used those Trans Am mounts on my Olds powered 94 Chevy 4x4. They bolted to the frame mounts with no issues but I did need a spacer on one side, you might not. Those mounts can be bought new from Year One.

The frames of that vintage have holes pre-drilled for every GM engine except Caddy. Bolt the Olds frame mounts in the correct location on the crossmember, use the matching rubber motor mounts, and bolt it in. Don't over think this.
