Indy Celebration of Cars-Invite

The Selection Committee of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2nd Annual Celebration of Cars has asked us to display our 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible at the invitation only event on May 10-12. Invitations went out to only 200 invitees. As a part of the festivities we get to make a parade lap around the famous brickyard.

I do not know if I will be the only Oldsmobile on the show field? However, I am absolutely certain we shall be the only 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible!

Sunds like fun! Parade lap at high speed?

You have two months to go. Are you driving down to Indy or hauling it by trailer? Maybe we will be salt-free by May.

We will drive it there. Our car has never been on a trailer. We do not own a trailer. 98% of the joy in owning old cars is in the driving, IMHO.

..!
I've done it a few times with various cars & bikes. Here's the trick: They'll prolly let you on the track on the backstretch and you'll go around thru 3-4 to 1-2 then out. They'll have officials/cops posted a various points to keep you slow, but most will be from Turn 4 to Turn 1. When you get out of Turn 1, fall waaayy back from the car ahead of you. That way you can blast thru Turn 2 and you'll be at the exit before they can kick you out!

Although, I'll warn you. 90 mph on that track seems like 30 on the street...

Good luck & travel safe!

I doubt they will permit any shenanigans, given that this is the weekend of qualifications. In fact, I am surprised they are letting us onto the track at all. With 200 possible cars taking the lap, will they line us in single file? It could make for a long line!

Definitely single file. They're not going to give anyone the chance to race their buddy! Time around track @ 30 mph = ~ 5 mins. I'd estmate they can run 200 cars thru in well under an hour. I've been in lines with wayyy more cars...Backed up all the way out to 30th street & down Georgetown. (prolly 2+ miles) Took an hour just to get on track. 10 mins later , you're out of IMS & headed home.

"permit any shenanigans" ??

Remember: For a once-in-a-lifetime chance to drive at IMS...It might be
better to ask forgiveness than permission....
