I'm in trouble again

Had to save this one. My friend's 1985 Olds Delta 88 was either going to the demolition derby or junkyard. Even though it needs paint, it was too nice and solid of a car to let that happen. Has 112k on it, rebuilt tranny, everything works except the original cassette player. Starts right up and does not burn any oil. All original with barely any rust. Wish it was a Cutlass, but still a nice Olds.

Ooh yea, I should probably say the reason I'm in trouble is that I didn't tell my wife I was bringing another car home! :

Yeah, I coulda swore I saw you say in another post that a neutering would be involved in another car coming home with you.

How did that go? Is your voice 3 octaves higher now?

That car is to nice to send off to the bone yard or demo derby,I have always loved those cushy interiors.

You are in the process of learning a very important life lesson about dealing with a wife.Today you are saved,it is the first day of the rest of your life. When I learned this,I felt like I had found freedom, peace and tranqulity.

I quote a wise man who I do not know..."It is easier to ask to be forgiven than ask for permission".

The last storm dumped another 18" here and there's no way I can get it out right now. So I don't have to tell her for maybe another couple weeks!

Yea I agree. The car is basically unmolested, no sign of being repainted, banged up or modified in any way. It was in a garage for its whole life until 4 years ago.

Nice save, Darrell! Looks to be a nice car - used but not abused. The ride quality of those is amazing - like nothing that can be had today. You did well. If the wife gives you too much grief, clean it up and sell it to another Olds fanatic. I wouldn't mind having it as a daily driver!
Since it is a coupe, just think of it as a grown up Cutlass...

BTW, the tape deck prolly needs belts, pinch rollers, cleaning, and perhaps an infrared pulse sensor if it has the music search feature.

I had a 78 Delta 88 and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. Great ride and it ran like crazy. You did good.

Yea - ask the man who owns 50 or so - about 10 of them whole and the rest in kit-form (some assembly required)...

Congrats Darrell!! I had an 85 Delta and I loved it. I'm partial to the Cutlass too, but the Delta rode like a dream. That one even has a cup holder already, lol! Reason enough right there to buy it since you can't find cup holders anymore, lol. Tell that to your wife!! "But honey, I bought it for the cup holder". Hope she understands - it looks to be a nice car!

Very nice Oldsmobile! Thanks for saving it. I'm with the other guys, tell your sweet wife it's "hers", and you'll be OK. That would be a great DD for me.......hmmmmmmmmmm...if you ever think of selling......

Thanks Rob! I never see these on the road anymore so it will be one of a kind ride for sure. I have not driven it yet, but my friend always tells me how great it rides and runs. I plan on giving it a good cleaning and going over everything mechanical.

If my wife does give me a hard time, I will put it up for sale 1st here.

Thanks Sandy! She usually is pretty supportive it just that I'm out of places to put things. And yes the cupholder is great to have. Still have not been able to find one for the Cutlass.

I think he was giving you a subliminal hint at what to replace the 307 with!

Tempting Rob, very tempting! I wouldn't mind putting some 15x7 or 15x8 Olds rally wheels on it, definitely would make it sportier!

Nice save. It looks in very good shape.
Thanks NozmoKing, definitely too nice to get destroyed.

But it is a Cutlass! 77-85 Delta is a continuation of the 73-77 Cutlass....
The underpinnings anyway.

Welcome to the club. I have 3 of those 2 door deltas at the moment.
2 85's and an 83'.
Be glad it's not an 80's cutlass. The Deltas are pretty much the GM continuation of the 68-77 A bodies. Same main idea, with minor changes.

But I like the style of my '80's Cutlass!
Needs a 350 though...

Same color as my 80 Delta. Mine is Holiday with console. Thanks for picking that one up. You said if wife gives you a hard time you will sell here first...the wife or the car?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. I'd have to say the car first since my wife is so good with putting up with me.

That is a pretty cool fact. Just a little bigger right? If I decide to keep it, I want to put Olds rallye wheels on it and ditch the hubcaps. Needs to be a little sportier. Also, wouldn't mind changing the color to burgundy. Pretty much just needs to be stripped as it is such a straight body. Of course I just need the funds to do it.

I have a soft spot for those wire wheel covers, but I think they look better on 4 drs. Rally's will look good on your 2 dr.

It might prefer Michigan gas, where it was born. I think you should send it home. I promise I'll take care of it.
