Idle Problems

Hello,

I have a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 stock motor (400) with a edelbrock performer manifold and a edelbrock thunder series 650 carb. When I start the car it will idle perfect, smooth, I can drive it around and when I come to a stop light it may start having idle problems and will run rich. Also sometimes it may not do that at all. Today when I drove it, it drove just fine with no problems, I stopped and parked it for a while and when I got back into to start it I had problems keeping it at idle and when I would let off of the gas pedal the car would just die. I was able to get it home and when I pulled into my driveway it was running just fine. Can anyone help with this problem? Anybody have any experience with this carb? Thanks for taking a look.

I had a similar issue with a quadrajet and mine was trash in the float needle. Today's fuel ate the body of the carb in the inlet past the filter but yours is not a QJ. Sounds similar though.

Gary may be right, fuel pressure may be a problem also. If the carb is new I would take the top off and have a look, quality control may have overlooked something. Good luck.

Check your fuel pressure and float levels.
