ID SX on 70 Cutlass
#3
You need a form of paperwork that says Y-79, essentially. It must be a 455/TH400 and would have a cutout rear bumper, SX fender badges and exhaust trumpets. NOTHING else is SX-specific or mandatory on the package (to preemptively stop guys from blurting out options that have nothing to do with whether it's an SX).
If it's a 4 barrel car and has the OG tagged trans and it all matches the VIN, it's definitely an SX and is a W-32.
If it's a 455 2 barrel with the OD trans and it all matches the VIN, it might or might not be an SX. (L-33) This engine was available in '70 Supremes without the Y-79 SX option. I have documented several for sx455.com over the years.
If It's a 455 4 barrel with the OD trans and it all matches he VIN, it's an SX with the L-31 engine.
Hope that helps.
