I admit his emails are a bit weird, but it's not automatic that it's a scam. Also, did you respond to him after the first email? From what he says, its sounds like you did.
There are things you can do to protect yourself while continuing to follow up with him. There's nothing that says that YOU have to have a paypal account in order to be paid that way. HE has to have the paypal account if he wants to pay by paypal. All you have to have is an email address.
So set up a new email address at yahoo or hotmail or something like that, and tell him to direct his payment to that address. If he's legit, you'll get an email from the real paypal at that address informing you that you have money and asking what you want done with it. Have paypal mail a check to you and deposit it. You never have a need to give out any bank or paypal account information at all.

Whenever they say "they are out of country" or "away" it is scam. A true buyer would be more interested in asking detailed questions as they too would not be certain you are legit. This guy probably can't call you cause he is in Nigeria.
If you believe there is even a small chance it is a scam, a good rule of thumb is to google the exact text in the email. Looks like this one is probably a scam from reading google results

Somebody buying a car usually asks a lot of questions. No questions and he's willing to pay your asking price...sounds to good to be true.
The next thing you'll know, is that his paypal doesn't work so he'll send you a certified cheque that he has lying around or that a friend owed him and it's for more than you're asking. But you're a good fellow, you'll cash the cheque and send him the difference and find out a week later from your bank that the cheque was no good. Now what? The bank will ask you to pay for the money you already sent him.
If he wants the car that bad ask your bank about bank transfers and have him deposite money into your account and wait for your bank to verify. Then the car is his. Otherwise, tread softly and carry a big stick. Good luck.

Can't hurt, but I think they will want more proof.
.......I am currently working on an oil rig offshore in the Nfld coast. I have a check from my buddy who owes me a lot of money. It's more than you want for your car, so if I send you that, you can cash it and send me the difference ok? I have a bro who lives in Sherwood Park AB. His name is Ken. Maybe you could deliver the car to him and he will give you the check.....

Roger - you're going to get a few of these phoney offers. Can I suggest you post the car here on the site and see if any of the members are interested?
