i have wasted a pile of money on 7040250 carburetors!
I NEED TO RANT! i was told so many times that this carburetor is not hard to find. to this day i have yet to find a good core. i have bought 3 cores so far just to all be junk. i wasn't even going to send them to Sparky's carb service because i knew they were junk. he talked me into sending them to him anyway. well he called and said they were mostly door stops. i have to call him back to see if he has a core or what i need to do. i wanted one of these carbs on my car since i got it in 1990 and to this day not got a good one.

I know what you mean. I bought a couple for cheap and they had stripped fuel inlets, holes drilled in them to hold the fuel filter housing, broken and missing parts, corrosion, cracks, etc.
I think with all of them, one good one could be pieced together.
I am very curious to know why Sparky could not do the same with yours.
Sorry for the frustration. I am still on the lookout for a good core myself.

Let me know exactly what pieces you are missing or need.I might have them.I know I have one 250,but the bottom has a different throttle arm,so the arm/shaft was either replaced,or the whole bottom was switched. The main body looks good, but it sounds like you have that already.I could use a few other tops & bottoms from 1970 carbs.
