floor shift speedo's as correct for a 4 speed. Were there actual speedo's for auto console cars vs 4 speed set-ups or was there no difference between the two?

AFAIK, the floor-shift/console speedo description just means the speedo doesn't have the shift quadrant/gear indicator. It's the same 'non quadrant' speedo unit for both auto-console & manual shift applications.

No difference. Either the speedo has the PNRDSL shift quadrant or not. Calling them "four speed" speedometers is simply trying to artificially inflate value - sort of like calling a four door trunklid a convertible trunklid.

There is no opening in the bottom of the case for the indicator. This one may be for a console auto or stick shift car but if you rub off the prnd12 from the face of any speedo and take out the needle most people wouldn't notice.

That is true for the 70-72 speedos, but the 68-69 speedos actually have differently shaped turn signal indicators in the speedo. Column shift uses triangles, floor shift and MT uses curved rectangles.

Thanks for that info Joe. Also I believe the 68 and 69 column shift speedometers have stamped areas where the prndsl is stamped into the face and even if you took off the white off the letters the prndsl would still be there

For completeness, 66 and 67 are irrelevant as the indicator is not in the speedo.

Well, if you are going to truly be complete, what about the 61-65 and 73-up cars?
