i got a free 68 cutlass

i don't have it yet. he said it was pretty bad off. he told me he got it because he thought it had the "ROCKET 350" in it. he said after he got it home he figured out it did not have the "ROCKET" engine in it and wanted it out of his way. i ask him if someone put a chevy in it. he said it was an Olds engine but it just was not the rocket version that he was looking for, lol. i tried to tell him the story about his "ROCKET" engine but he just continued to say that it just is not the Rocket he was wanting. who knows what i am going to find but i can't beat a free car. even if it is scrap i have to get it. i will fill you in when i get it. i hope to get it next week. i will try to tell him one more time when i pick it up but if he just can't understand i guess i have a free car. i don't want to take advantage of him so i will give him every opportunity to back out of it.

He must have been expecting a Saturn V J-2 'Rocket' engine in it! That was from the 60's.

i don't think it will be a 455 because he tried to tell me the 350 rocket he was looking for was wider than this one, lol

Sounds like your doing the right thing. I doubt if you will be able to convince him that it is a rocket, sounds like he already thinks he know what it is. Just take the free car make few bucks off it.

The whole "Rocket" engine is confusing to a lot of people. It's like their looking for a picture of a rocket emblazoned on the side of the block or something. I am glad you going to try to explain and give him one more chance to back out. You're doing the right thing

in buying or selling, i don't want to cheat anyone, or even want them to feel cheated. i want to keep parting the junkers and fixing up and selling oldsmobiles so i don't need to have a bad name out there. i am not that heavy into it now because of other things going on. i will be ending my other big hobby soon so i will have more time to do this. my biggest problem with all this is keeping up with what the economy is doing to the prices.

i just got a new car hauler tonight and need to get a winch. i hope to have it ready by saturday so i can get the 68 but i don't know if i can get the winch on the trailer that fast.

Congrats on the freebee. Maybe it'll have some good parts in it that you can use.

I'll be honest with you. When someone is hardheaded like that when you've tried to explain things, my conscience steps outside and takes a break.

Even if it turns out to be a 330, you still get a good crank out of the deal. Just hope it isn't a 260/307.

So, when you're referring to "she" you mean the Aurora right? It would seem fitting "she" wouldn't want you hanging with a girl when you could be doing hands on stuff better with the car

Can't imagine a car guy in the world letting a girl tell him which car he can have or not.......my wife said to say that.

Well, the cost to make that Aurora roadworthy would of been over $4000.
Tranny slipped like crazy, e-brake was stuck (the bell rang when the car was in drive), either ther radtior and/or overflow tank need to be replaced.

well, i guess you get what you pay for. lol

when i got there the engine, transmission, and rear end were out of the car. he told me that since i said it had to be a Rocket engine he decided to keep the engine and drivetrain. not much left that is good but a couple parts. a friend has ben looking for a hood for his 442 for a year now and he all ready grabbed it from me. it has a very nice 71/72 fan shroud with it and one good 68/69 wheel trim. i will have to see if the dash pad is good. looks like it had a fire under the dash but not sure.

I think I also see a trunk light there too. Grab the cig lighter and washer *****, radio too. I have even watched and original front speaker sell for $40 on ebay. Those will all sell.

i think the tail light housings are good but the lenses are bad. the side markers have bad chrome covers but the lenses look good. i will try to pull them off and see. i am not sure about the glove box light. are those the same for 70 to 72? if so i think i have some of those.

Oh well, I was hoping for clean lenses. They look good in the pic Mine are uncracked but not perfect, same with the side markers. I don't know if later glove box lights are different. I have the plunger but nothing behind it. Your pic shows an orange wire in that area so it may all be there. Might it also have the courtsey lights under the dash? What about the driverside stainlees drip rail piece by the windshield/A pillar(not the one that goes over the doors). Looking at all the soot on the windshield I think the radio would be toast. If the mercury switch works in the trunk light I would take that off you hands too.

A couple of years ago, I got a free 1966 Cutlass. Had a 1970 350 engine in it and came with a 330 magnafluxed block, headers still in the box, a white interior and black interior, a set of 14" SSII/III's, a Jetaway transmission and new quarter panels. The guy was going to junk it so I said I would take it. Sold it three weeks later.

Raised White Letters were on the inside and still had the blue coating on them.

442 - MUCH? Looks like you'll do pretty good with selling parts off the car and then get a couple hundred from the metal recycler after.

OMG
Consider any chrome (like what is on the roof) a pile of ca$h.
Romper romper, I see wheel well chrome ($$$),
a fan shroud (68!, and 70-72),
window chrome,
blue dash, and interior (looks like it had mice),
Blue kick panels,
blue door panels,
side chrome,
wheels,
rear view mirror..
Just check out what these items sell for on e-bay.
You did good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck!

Jim
