"Hydroboost"

Hi All,
In addition to my beautiful 89 Olds Custom Cruiser, I also have an 86 Pontiac Parisienne Safari wagon that needs a Hydroboost replacement. I cannot find this online where I am searching -- any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ryan

I just had to replace the one
on my 99 crew-cab. New, about
$350 and up. I found a good used
one with a 90 day warr. for $125 at
a junk yard.

It's been on about a month, no problems.
The original had sprung a leak some where.
It had to keep feeding it pwr.steering fluid.

I think they call it Hydra assist?

Don't confuse hydroboost with the powermaster system. Hydroboost is a hydraulic power brake booster that uses hydraulic fluid from the power steering pump for braking assist. While more common on large pickup trucks and some Mustangs, they were also used in some RWD Olds diesel cars.

The 86 has a Powermaster, as did many of the B-body wagons. The Powermaster uses an integral electric pump to pressurize brake fluid to provide the power assist. The most common failure mode is the accumulator (the black ball on the rear driver's side of the unit), which can be replaced by itself. I assume your unit looks like this:

You must not have looked very hard (or perhaps your problem was asking for a "hydroboost"). RockAuto has a rebuilt Powermaster unit for your car for $472 plus core charge under A-1 Cardone P/N 529700.

Thanks very much - rather than replacing the whole 400+$ thing, can you get just the black ball accumulator? Is that part called something in particular that I can search for online?

thanks,
Ryan

It's called an accumulator and the same part is used on the GN turbo Buicks. TA Performance sells one for around $180.
