Howard's Camshaft for Olds

Hello, Have any of you on this forum used a Howard's Camshaft? I have talked with Mark/cutlassefi,Lynn@Mondello,Dick@Dick Miller Racing,Chris @Engle during my quest to explore camshaft options..Have to say that I am impressed(at least for now) with the fact that all of their grinds are done in house and are checked for rockwell hardness and the max cams carry a 5yr.warranty...(per.their website)-(Reasonably priced also) Am I being a little overzealous here?as very few cams researched until now are not hardened let alone checked to ensure hardness) I will post the spec's on a cam that I am considering which appears to bear similarities to the other recomendations that I received from the others listed above:::Copy/paste spec's did not transfer as labeled): part #511431-12 adv.duration 281/287 duration @.050 227/233 lift with 1.60 rockers 512/512 lobe seperation 110 intake centerline 108 (flat tappet)( to be used in 455 Olds ) looking for a noticeable lope/chop@ idle, enough vacuum for power brakes, performer intake, "c" heads with 1.72/2.07 stainless valves,headers,9.5-10.0 compresion goal,(want to run pump gas) .030 over bore ,built 2004r tranny with 2500-2800 stall, 3.73 gears with posi..(will be a weekender/show car...

It drives great I have almost 200 miles on it. It idles great in traffic, cruises nice and smooth, has plenty of vac. for brakes. Tons of power and throttle response . one quick tap of the throttle and the tires are up In smoke.

Howards cam

Cool, Sounds like a cam that I may want to consider after all for my 455!

That cam will NOT sound or be the same in a BBO with 100 more cubic inches!
It'll mellow down a lot!

The cam may not sound as aggressive in the 455 but it's perfect for the 3.73 gear and the stall he wants to run and compression . Im running the same gear and a 2800 stall. Something in the 540 lift 240 duration should sound similar to what I have. I had a 462 for a short time with a came with specs in that region and it sound just as aggressive as the one in my sbo much louder and had 11 to 1 compression.

Coppercutlass, I called Howards Cams today and give them all the build data/details that I currently have and this is what they recommended for my application: CL510041-10 Adv. dur.289/299 dur.@.050 235/245 520/544 lift..This is a tadd more ( lift and duration)than what cutlassefi, and Engle had quoted me on! I questioned "John" at Howards cam about vacuum for power brakes and he stated that it would not be an issue with this grind...John also said that I would have some chop at idle! (I am glad of that). How close is this one to yours?

close on which one ? im running the 512 lift cam u mentioned. On the 461 I had it was 532 lift 232 duration . I looked up the paper work from when I bought it. Motor is long gone but that's thing sounded nasty. it was 11 to 1 compression. there is a video online from the guy who originally built it let me find it .

I am still considering the erson TQ50 that cutlassefi recommended, the howards profile sounds good also, but get this....I have come across a Crower that has a lower rpm initial range than the howards...here are the spec's that I haveart number 56264 229/236 @.050 dur. 112 lobe seperation, 520/528 lift...rpm 1600-4800 (with up to 6000 op. range) moderate lope at idle..
