Howard Cams Hydraulic Roller lifters question.
Hello,
Hoping someone can help here. I'm wanting to replace my hydraulic roller lifters, I"m in Australia and have a short time frame so getting parts from the US isn't really a choice atm.
Most everything I have read over the years says Olds and Ponti use the same lifters and are interchangable. A local company has a set of Howard cams hydraulic roller lifters that are the Ponti part # I can get with in days but I just want to double check they will work? does anyone know?
I called Howard to ask but the tech guy didn't want to commit to anything - I understand, but I wanted to know the oil hole height in the body of the lifter, I thought if he can tell me this then I can work it out. But he couldn't even tell me this.
My understanding is that Howards lifters are made by Morel anyway? I currently have a set of Morel in the car.
so my questions are.
A. does anyone know if I can just use these lifters? part # is 91466 for Ponti one that I can get, Olds is 91464 photos look the same but could be a generic photo too.
B. Can anyone tell me the height of the oil hole in a stock Olds lifter so I can call the local company and ask them to measure the hole height? I don't have any old lifters to check
thanks

I think the location of the lifter oil band itself is more critical than the location of the oil hole within the band.
This page shows the location of the various Pontiac lifter bands: https://butlerperformance.com/n-1349...formation.html
I measured approx 1.36" from the bottom of the lifter to the bottom of the oil hole.

the Olds lifter bore C to C is 1.91” , the Pontiac is 1.818” for a .092” difference.
the Pontiac set may work in yours if the lift is moderate? only way to know for sure is if you can put a single Pontiac set in yours and role it over to see if the link bar will be long enough without binding through a full rotation
if they could let you borrow one set, two lifters with the link bar, to try…. you’ll know

Thanks for that,
I'm working on the fact that if Morel make the Howard cam lifters , and I already have Morel lifters, I'm assuming the oil band is in the same place. Well, hoping...
does anyone have a set of Morel they can measure for me and I can cross check to the butler link above.
thanks.

Thanks, Valve lift is .525 so its not massive. I'm pretty sure I remember my lifters having a slotted hole in the tie bar so they can move assuming the ponti ones are exactly the same.
