I despise acronyms. I used to write technical procedure manuals and the acronym use in them is what got people killed.

Doubtful I would have been able to sleep tonight without confronting this.
The GM Oldsmobile Product Information Manual (PIM) changed from Oldsmobile Graphic Illustration to OLDSMOBILE PRODUCT INFORMATION MANUAL in the 1967 model year PIM (lower RH corner of each page).

Exactly, that's why I had to figure this one out.

Some acronyms are germane. In a Classic Oldsmobile forum, I would not expect anyone to spell out G.M. (General Motors).

Just imagine if I had said OGI instead of PIM.

I thought that the PIM was an unofficial, saved from the line, process sheets collection, and the illustration guide and parts guide were published works.

The PIM/assembly manual was a complete manual. No matter what it's called is just semantics and making a big deal out of it is just wrong.

true, because G.M. Is initialism, not an acronym.

Has G.M. ever used the acronym PIM for product information manual?

Class is dismissed

I guess that means we have to spell out "Oldsmobile", not "Olds", and Turbohydramatic 400, and High Energy Ignition. and SuperStock II, and Regular Production Option, and...

My point was whether it was published for use outside Oldsmobile or not...

The PIM was published by Olds to instruct production personnel how to build the car, design the assembly line equipment, etc. Why would GM need to put out such a document for outside use? Once the model year was over, they got thrown away. The ones sold today by restoration vendors are copies of surviving documents, which is why they are usually incomplete and crappy quality. The cover used on these reprints has nothing to do with Oldsmobile.

Yes, this is how I thought it was.
