What exactly do you want to know? It looks as if the seal on the master took a dump and you have been leaking some brake fluid. If it has eaten through the booster then you will need to replace both of them.

X2. Your problem is with the master cylinder and not the booster, that is, if your concern is with the fluid that is visible in the picture. If you have other concerns, please clarify. However, get a new master cylinder soon before it fails completely and you have much bigger problems.

If not an internal seal, the cover gasket of the master cylinder could be leaky. The rough casting of the master is not the best sealing surface anyway.
It is also possible that the master cylinder has been overfilled in the past. The MC already sits at an angle and parking on an incline can cause the fluid to stay in constant contact with the gasket. CSM says to fill no higher than 1/4" from the lowest edge.

Only way to remove that damage on the booster is to clean well and either repaint it or pull the thing and have it replated.

Rob, I don't think that is the problem because the fluid also leaks when the MC is upside down as seen in the first photos. If the lid gasket was leaking there should be fluid on top of the booster too when it was turned upside down. (Sorry, one of those moods today and the wise **** is starting to show through a little.)

Hmmmm, the majority? How many more people do you need to tell you your master cylinder is leaking? After you change it, and a quick wire brushing, you can repaint your power booster an array of different colors.

What I don't understand is why people PAINT their brake boosters, when, sooner or later, the master cylinder is bound to leak brake fluid all over it.

Get the darn thing plated, or use silicone brake fluid, or you're just making work for yourself.

by the way: your master cylinder's leaking.

Personally, I'd replace both, as their both the same age!
You're 1/2 way there with the master, and to me, it's worth the parts price to not have to do it over, in labor!
But, that's just me.
Kinda like the water pump/timing chain thing.

Yeah, but...

If you replace a perfectly good original one with a Chinese knockoff rebuild (which are everywhere and have given people unexpected trouble), you're worse off than when you started.

In a case where a replacement of original quality can be obtained, then sure,
but NOT in the case where the owner is going to buy one on eBay and think he's made an "improvement."

Buyer beware.

Now you did it! We're going to need another majority vote on this suggestion too!

Classic master cylinder leak. If you need to get that unit redone, try Steve Gregori, he's a great guy!

Brake Booster discussion in progress

Here, have a look through this post I started called "Brake Booster changeout". It talks about exactly the same thing you're going through. Might save you some time and frustration. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...changeout.html

BTW your master cylinder is leaking. BUT, I agree with others that if you have the original Brake Booster, you might want to change it out. Brake boosters (Delco Moraine - cad plated) can be bought for as little as 120.00.
To tell if your brake booster needs replacing, check your brake pedal. If the brake application feels 'stiff', or all you hear is air escaping chances are really good the diaphrapm is not working as it should. Replacement is cheap insurance for good stopping. Remember it's not how fast you can do the 1/4 mile, it's whether you can stop at the end....

My cost to replace both: $25.00 for master cylinder, 125 for a booster. While you're doing this, it's also a good time to check your brake hoses, rotors, pads calipers and drum(hardware, shoes and lining)

Hope things work out well for you
