Hose out of the oil pan

Just got my 69 Cutlass 350 and a whole 2 barrel carb. I noticed a hose out of the pan that the pervious owner taped it? See picture. Any idea what is it for?

Any idea what the purpose of the hose out of the oil pan?

Yes mthe hose is connected to the side of oil pan about 2 inches from the buttom. I know for a fact it's the original pan but the goes no where and capped.

Any hoses coming from the back of the valve covers? I have heard some install drain hoses from valve covers to oil pan to keep more oil in the pan.

I checked and nothing coming out of the valve covers. I was reading about oil pan tapping for s supercharger. However the car was owned by older couple and parked since the 80's.

ill go with the valve cover theory, olds was notorious for plugged drain holes in the heads. someone may have switched valvecovers after the problem was solved

I'm pretty sure that someone else brought this up once before.
