History of 50s cars

Hi,
I donīt know if this is the right place here in this forum to ask my question, so please move this thread if its wrong here...

I`d like to learn something about my car, where it had been, who ordered and bought it and so on...
Is there any site or any department which has stored the data of the bought cars which I could contact to find out something about my car?

thanks and regards
Kai

Nope. I am fortunate to have all the history of both my cars including the original invoice for each of them. There are not even records for Oldsmobiles built in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

It's unfortunate but your on your own here as no such records exist. You may be able to get some info through your state DMV.

Hey Eric:

He is in Germany. I don't think he will get anything over there.

I didn't realize that, sorry. He may be able to go back through the state DMV that he bought the car from and go from there. There are some companies that perform title searches (not the carfax type) but I don't know how good they are.

It's not quite this bad. You can get original dealer invoices for Oldsmobiles of model year 1977 and later, so you can find out where it was originally sold and what were its original options. It's the 1976 and earlier model years for which records were not kept and for which nothing is available now.

Well I stand corrected and that is a good thing to know. Unfortunately it doesn't help
R CK R. Where would somebody find this info on 1977 and later models?

Until it went out of business 10 or so years ago, the Olds History Center was the place, and I think there was no charge. Those records were moved to the GM Heritage Center, and it now costs $50. Availability varies by make.
