Friend I am helping on his 72 W30 restoration has this tank. It came off his 72 Hurst Olds and it’s a big 4 core tank. Strange part is the other tank was a three core and it was attached to this one. It was weird but the big tank part only had three cores. We were hoping it was correct for the w30 as date code is perfect D(April) for his car. Code is IX. The strange thing is the upper transmission line connection is up pretty high so it looks like cooling lines will not fit properly. His original from the W30 appears to be aftermarket. We are trying to locate the correct radiator. Any guesses what this is or what is correct 4 core for his 72 W30?
I've seen these in full sized cars, large tank on one end small on other end. I believe I have one with the XI code that came out of a Toronado. I'm used to seeing A-body cars with the large tank on both ends. I know the correct codes for 1970 and 1971, but someone with the correct reference books will need to help with 1972.

Also, the space between the transmission coolant ports is different between the full sized and A-body. The correct one will have the large tank on both ends. That’s good information. Thank you. We will have to keep looking for the correct 4 core tanks. Interesting it was on his 72 Hurst Olds when he bought it. I knew it was not from that car. Date code was after build.
The radiator may be the correct/original one to the car. A customer of mine had a 29k mile super original '72 W30 and it had the 3 row core with the larger 4 row end tank on the filler neck end and a 3 row tank on the other side. Was it original to the car? Don't know but the car was/is very original overall.
It may be the radiator you got if you had a HD 3 row radiator.
In other words.....do some more research.
Is there a tag on the filler side tank? - soldered/clipped on further down the tank edge.

You are correct it did have a three core in it. There was no tag as is often the case.
Patton, I've never come across that before. Jungle Cat, what kind of saddles/bushings did your car have on the top and bottom? The 4 row had a wider one than the 3 row, but on the full sized cars with one of each size tank I've seen saddles (the metal part) for the 4 row, then the smaller tank had a bushing that would fit the large saddle but still be tight on the tank.

I wish i could remember? The Hurst we did about 5 years ago. I don’t think it had the big 4 core claw in it. It may have been cut out to fit? We were pretty sure the car had seen some collision damage. There is a three core in the Hurst now. We got some conflicting information what should be in the Hurst. Assembly manual appears to show a 4 core should be in there but some of my friends Hurst contacts say three core is correct? Anyway a 4 core belongs in the w30 and that’s what we are after.
The XI passenger side radiator tank you have is not an Oldsmobile Tank.
It is a Pontiac tank and may possibly been used in Chevrolet.
In 1972 all radiators had the slant rad cap tank.
The transmission lines were closer together than the 1970 and older radiators.
In 1972 it was standard to use the 4 core tank passenger side and 3 core tank driver side.
The specifics of a 1972 W30 will dictate the type of radiator it has.
The top radiator in 1972 is the ZR rad tag code.
The ZN is the Y72 heavy duty radiator, which is comparable.
Any 442 with the 3:73 gear ratio would get the ZR.
It is 4 and 3 core tanks.
If you can tell me the specifics of the car I can tell you what radiator your car should have.
I do have many different radiators available.
Thanks
Rocket, Thanks for the reply. The car is a matching numbers W30 Convertible. It is a factory original 3:73 gear car so obviously no AC. Auto transmission. We would certainly be intereted in what you have for a correct radiator for the car. I was pretty sure 72 had that slant top tank. Thanks for confirming my memory. Let me know what you have and prices.
