That's not the VIN, that's the first line of the cowl tag. The VIN is on the dashboard, read it through the windshield.
That line translates to "Vehicle Type 1970 Oldsmobile Division Cutlass Supreme Convertible from Lansing, Fisher Body Number 27843"
ST 70 3 42 67 LAN 27843

That's only part of what the cowl tag says. What is the rest? Picture is worth a 1000 words...

Post a pic of the data tag. The vin will not tell you that it is an SX. You need factory paperwork for that. ID the block, and get the vin derivative from it. If the block is the original 455, then that helps. Correct engine, with matching vin derivative, fender tags, transmission, rear bumper with cutouts, will help in confirming what you have.

>"Limited production - 6,404 hardtops and 793 convertibles in 1970. The only mandatory SX items were one of three available 455s with a TH400, the cutout rear bumper with exhaust trumpet tips, and fender SX badges. Everything else was optional. The hottest version was the W32 with 'OG' TH400. L31 and L33s 455s came with the 'OD' TH400 trans.. < From Terry D.
So if by chance you have a "W32" SX look at the trans ID tag (passenger side) and verify it has an OG tag(and doesnt look new). Next verify that the OG trans has the last 1/2 of the cars VIN stamped on the trans oil pan rail(drivers side). This will gain some traction towards SX providence at least for a W32 SX. A build sheet, line card or window sticker would be definitive proof. Lansing cars are not noted to contain the first two items. If the engine and the OG trans numbers match the vin on the dash you likely have an SX. Bullet proof evidence is the original window sticker.
Terry D can further assist. He has plenty of info on 70-71 SX and 72 455 V code cars. He has a 70 Vert SX. Look him up here.
See the thread below some good info there as well...

The L33 455 was available in the 1970 Supreme even without the Y79 SX package, so that won't prove the car is an SX either.
