Hey guys. Haven't been on in awhile. Kind of got disillusioned with the 442. However, I really need to finish it and get it up for sale so I'm really hoping someone can help me.

The car: 1968 442 w/ AC.

The issue: Still cannot get the crank , water pump, A/C & power steering pulleys to line up.

The help: Can someone PLEASE give me the correct pulley #s and power steering & a/c bracket #s? Additionally, can someone perhaps send me photos of either the correct parts or a '68 442 with A/C already set up and running?

I just haven't been able to find this information locally. I realize the other possible issue could be the water pump itself, but I want to make sure I have the correct parts to begin with before I go pulling the pump off the engine.

Can you post a pic that would help with answering your question. You might want to give Warhead a PM I think he lives in your area.

 

X2, a photo will help us help you. The two most common problems with belt alignment on these cars is incorrect water pump length (a 68 with A/C should use the 6" water pump - measured from gasket surface to pulley mounting flange) and omission of the two power steering pump bracket spacers. One spacer goes on the bottom stud on the front cover and the other one goes between the bracket and the side of the block at the bottom rear of the bracket.

What a coincidence!! I was sitting here with my eyes wide open and saw this on page 6-1 113...power steering PN 399406 two groove-water pump PN 399404 three groove- crank shaft PN 399405 three groove...try that also where the PS bracket bolts to the block above the pan rail there is a spacer for that 1/2 inch bolt (fits between bracket and block) the PN,s are stamped into the pulleys If you still have trouble, fly me down and I'll give you a hand...I am packed and ready to go...

Aahh it's the desert so its dry heat , I prefer that over hot and humid we been having in the east. Sept is coming fast so it should start cooling down. before you know it we will get snow and everybody will complain about the summer going too fast.

 

What a blatent attempt to wrangle a free holiday. I just can't believe the nerve of some people and the things they will do to get something for free. What nerve! By the way, I usually go with him and help out by passing him the tools he needs.

 

OK, guys. I'm back on track with this. It's unbelievable what I've gone through with this car. I now know how those guys with stories of cars in paint & body hell/jail for 3+ years feel, and it's been half as long.

Looks like the power steering pulley is the culprit. Hopefully I'll be locating one of them locally tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.....

Maybe a silly question, but didn't the car come with these pulleys? I don't know the cond. of said car, when you bought it.
