For years I've been collecting Quadrajet carbs at swap meets, many not Oldsmobile applications. I figure they can be used for parts if nothing else. When I was keying out applications I came across this one that kinda threw me for a loop!

yes, many of them. they will have the model number info stamped-in upside down. often, you will find a C inside of a circle on many of the individual pieces. many don't have markings on the pri./sec. metering rods and the jets were not marked like rp's were-just a number stamp. typically, pontiac and chebby models were made by carter into the early 70's. as mentioned above, it was due to rp's inability to keep-up with production demands. with the advent of emission control systems, rp was chosen to make many of those pieces in addition to carburetors.

There are two kinds of Carter Quadrajets. If it has a Rochester number, it's a licensed one for a GM car like mentioned above. My 72 Monte Carlo has such a carb.
Carter later acquired rights to quadrajet design, and those will have the 4 digit Carter code, and those are aftermarket.

I remember a friend of mine in high school who's Dad had a 71 429 Ford Mustang with a Q-jet on it. It is the only one of that weird GM Ford pairing, along with the 69 H/O flapper motor that I know of.

So I guess you've never seen the "Dearborn" HD toploader three speed used in 1965-69 A-body cars...

I had a couple Pontiacs that came with Carter QJets. Never saw them on anything else. The Ford QJet application was weird but not unheard of. Sometimes it was cheaper for a carmaker to buy something another manufacturer had on the shelf than it was to R&D their own- that's how our Oldsmobiles ended up with the Dearborn top loader 3-speed. No more of those than Olds (or Pontiac) sold, cheaper to buy from Ford who had bazillions of them on the shelf than to try to get Saginaw or Muncie to build a suitable unit.
I don't remember QJets on Mopars. Most of those used Carter ThermoQuads, or as my Mopar friends are fond of calling them, Thermo-bogs.
