Hard brake pedal

I recently bought a '56 88 324ci 4bbl with a hard power brake pedal, may be 1/4 inch or so of play. Power booster? How would you begin to diagnose the problem? It idles smooth. Thanks,

Roy

Is it a hard petal, and not stopping good? Or a hard petal, and stopping good? Sounds like a booster problem

Not sure if pre-60s act the same, but one major test for a booster-
Put foot on brake, then start car and pedal should drop slightly.

Pretty much fighting the same problem in my 55. You might drop on down to the vintage forum there is a thread on Treadle Vacs( power booster) going on right now. I think I might have mine figured out....Lost in the fifties ...Tedd
