Growing Pains

So it's been a while. Just to catch y'all up, I got my 455 installed and had issues right off the bat. Not only was installing it a bitch, but the builder had set the timing to 42° retarded, as well as putting on the HEI distributor cap on wonky so it broke off a tooth and was only running on 7 cylinders. Had a friend help me solve all these things and the car ran awesome!
...for a few weeks. Went to a few cruises, realized I need to upgrade my radiator, unfortunately before I got a chance to do so, my alternator belt came off and seized my fan, causing my temp to spike and blow out a cap on my radiator. Luckily no damage was done, except possibly blowing out a seal on my rear diff causing it to leak (too many burn outs I guess). On top of that, I can not for the life of me get it to idle at 700rpm while in gear. It either idles up to 1-1.2k or chugs at 500rpm. Once I have it set to where I think it's good, it'll stay like that for about 10 minutes and then adjust itself (this is all while at temp, adjustments made while at temp as well). Oh, and icing on the cake, my fenders keep cutting into my tires, so I've gotta roll those too.

But she goes fast, breaks traction with ease, scares me a little to drive, and I love it. Got it dyno'd and it's making 450hp/500ftlbs to the wheels. Not too shabby.

I feel your pain, brother. I had problems with my linkage going wonky on my 67. I can't figure out how the linkage gets shorter!

Sory to hear that, it can be very frustrating when all you want is to enjoy the car. I can't get my 455 to idle at under 1k either, so that's where it idles nicely, I can live with that, I don't need it stalling out just to satisfy some book #. Good luck and have fun!

Idle speed will depend on cam size, cant go by any stock numbers if its a modified motor.

What carb are you using, and what are you vacuum readings at idle.

Wheels I'd assume since it was a portable drive on dyno
