greatest wife ever!
So there I was scouring the globe for a nice set of dog dish hub caps for my '64 coupe when I come across a near mint set on ebay. I told my wife that I needed to get those for the car, period. There was no 'buy it now' so instead of suffering through a bidding war, my wife said just wait and see.
There were 3 days left on the auction so I bided my time - for a day. I went back and had a look and .... GONE. I contacted the guy and he said they were no longer available. I was pretty choked at myself for not moving on them as soon as I saw them. Grumbling about it for days and staying up on my lap top for hours, I was determined to find me a set.
A set of 3 driver quality pieces came up and I told my wife I want to buy them and maybe get them restored. Since I was on the verge of buying them she finally told me that SHE was the mystery buyer and my near mint hub caps were already waiting for me at our P.O. box!
I'm just happy that my lovely wife understands my passion and enjoys the cars ALMOST as much as I do.
She even contacted the seller and told him to expect a message from me and to blow me off....

She's got you trained well.
They say no then let you stew then say yes or just do what you wanted to do to begin with and make you think they did you a favor.
I've been going through that same routine for nearly 35 years.
I was told that in no way, shape, or form that we could afford a '68 GTO convertible I saw in Hemmings that I wanted so bad I could taste it almost 20 years ago. I dejectedly resigned myself to defeat until it showed up on a transporter one day and she said "Surprise!!".
I was torn between hugging her and doing something else to her.
It still happens to this day, keeps her happy and I have it all figured out now. "Operation Garage Lift" was one of my/her more recent victories.

My wife pretty much did the same thing!
About a year ago, I started looking for a 70-72 cutlass to "play" with. When I finally found one (that I could afford) this past March, her exact words were "I want you to buy it. You've spent the last 20 years buying things for me, the kids or the house. You need to get yourself a toy."
Sometimes a guy just gets lucky I guess.

I will have to nominate my wife in this category. She bought me a 2002 trans am ws6 in 2004. We got married and when I walked out of the chrch it rolled up with a bow on top. That was a good day.

Sounds like I'm in good company....
The 427 4sp Corvette idea is a good one however I plan on buying a new Jaguar XKR-S next summer after my shop`s been at my new location for a year. That`ll be $100k so I`m already working on a trip to Europe between here and there....
