Gotta pay to play

So sunday a 5000 mile 2012 Corvette got towed in. Stopped running while cruising in traffic per the customer. I get in and try to start it. All I hear is clunk when the starter button gets pushed.
I open the hood and see headers and supercharger ........ No warranty

We just got it in the shop and sure enough its broke broke. Just finished ordering his new motor. My Christmas bonus

I'm sure the owner will tell you he was driving to church choir practice with his elderly mother in the car when all of a sudden it just stopped running!
I'd sure hate to see that bill. So...do you install the headers and supercharger again?

And if the motor isn't completely destroyed, what happens with it? I'm bargain shopping!

He's not happy but he knows it is what it is. He is super cool about it and yes the stuff is going back on. He is going to take my advise and go to a different tuner I am recommending right after it gets picked up from here.

As for the old one it has to go back to GM as a core but they won't be getting much more than scrap metal.

I guess the previous tuner will be getting coal in his stocking this year!

I assume it was a detonation issue from running lean? Maybe broke a piston or two?

Richard, can you plug into the car's computer and read any data that was collected right before it went Boom?

Thats what we think. It has meth kit which is a bad tuners best freind and crutch.

We can't read black box history but if GM engineers were to get involved they can

They try to compensate for too much boost and timming but the results are often catostophic.

How much boost were they running on the engine? I am guessing the engine was stock that they put the supercharger on.

Yea it was stock. Even stock they will take a lot. Pulley is pretty big so could not be making a ton of boost. I am just betting the tune was way off.

Talked to a tech who was working on my F150 last year. Similar situation as the vet. Not sure what aftermarket bits were on it but he burned a hole in the piston on a brand new 5.0.
