Good spot to mount MSD coil???

Replacing my current coil on my 68 Cutlass and was curious if anyone had any tips on a good spot to mount it? I was thinking on the firewall towards the heater core, but above it. Thinking AC units were over there in later cutlasses, so no harm in a few self tapping screws.

Any pics or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of MSD coil do you have? I have mine mounted in the factory holder on the intake, fits perfectly.

Had a blaster ss there, but it crapped out. (Those are apparently made in China now) so I picked up an MSD HVC Blaster. Larger, so I think it might have to go on the firewall.
Hasn't showed up from Jegs yet, so I'll have to check out the old spot when it arrives.

The Blaster HVC is a beast. Hard to find a good spot that's not an eye-catcher. I put my MSD box and coil inside the plenum behind the engine. I used an MSD pass-through for the coil wire to get to the distributor.

Thanks for the response, that's actually a pretty good idea . I knew I would get some good ideas on this site.

MOST MSD coils are best mounted in the garbage can. They're high-failure Asian junk.

MSD has four "HVC" coil part numbers. Which one did you buy? The 8250 is recommended only with 6601 and 6631 spark boxes, the 6631 is intended for circle-track use and I can't find a listing for the 6601. The 8252 is "Designed for road course or circle track racing using a 6-series ignition.". The 8261 "is for drag racing applications only. For use with MSD 7 Series ignition controls." That leaves the 8253 as the only unit suitable for normal street use. If what you bought is made in China, I'd send it back and look elsewhere.

Went 8252, as it's a bit beefier and was told it's still made domestically.
Will definitely agree on the quality of blaster Ss......thing shat the bed with less than 5000 miles on it.
