I wish the carmakers used styling tricks like that now. 68-69 GM cars (except Chevy, go figure) incorporated marque ID in their rear side marker lamps- Rocket for Olds, Arrowhead for Pontiac, Buick and Cadillac crests for them. And it worked! Why Chevy didn't use a Bowtie, who knows.

Ford OTOH took the easy way out and used a reflector which always looked tacked on to me, and Mopar used a simple but elegant round bullseye on Plymouth and Dodge, and a square version for Chryslers.

Then by 1971, no one was using them for styling cues. Lot of them didn't even use a chrome bezel by then.
