Fuel Tank

So this is my first post in awhile... Thanks Rob

Any recomendations on brands? I was talking to a supplier and they said their filler necks are straight, Are you supposed to bend them? Looks like he Spectra is pre bent and curved....

Anyone care to share where they bought their fuel tanks from and the quality and service?

Thanks

Generally speaking, I've heard that Canadian-manufactured fuel tanks are much better than the Chinese-made alternatives. As far as the fill tube goes, I supposed a straight tube could be bent to specs but I would go with the supplier who already as the fill tube bent to specs. Or.....

you could go to a collector car junkyard and pull a tank that looks to be in good condition. That's what I did and it worked out fine except for one thing: The requirement of the yard was that their guy had to pull the tank. So, I watched idly by while the guy remove the tank straps and just let the tank drop, which put a crimp in the fill tube. After getting a better price for the tank because of the bent fill tube, I used the fill tube from my old tank and everything worked out fine.

I've got several used tanks, but don't think there's any way to ship one. If you can figure out a way to get one up there let me know. John

Thanks Guys,

My tank is not bad by anymeans but have not seen the inside. Maybe if the inside of the tank is clean I will avoid spending the money. I was just looking to replace it since the old one is out but that may be overkill.

Thanks for the offer John.... Just drive it up I-5

I bought a tank from Fusick. The filler neck was within a 1/2 inch of perfect, but I did have to bend it slightly. I would assume that for any 70's car tolerances were not what they are today and a bit of "field fitting" was always required. Am I wrong...any other opinions?

They have the poor in sealer for fuel tanks turns rock hard and doesn't dissolve. I called the company and its ethanol and diesel friendly. My olds was the first try and i have done a few more on old tractor tanks. They don't make a new tank for mine. You can put a couple coats if needed. You have to dry all the way before the next coat but end result its hard as a rock and you shouldn't ever have to worry about rust in the filter again. Bad part cant remember the name i will check tomorrow when i go to work. We sell it at carquest but think napa handles the same thing.
