One suggestion....if you or your shop hasn't already, install the bumper on the car and check the fit before you send it off for replating.

Find your local Keystone Automotive warehouse... they own Northstar Plating and can send it out to be done. Good prices and wonderful quality.

Charlie, right here in Chicago is one of the best platers in the states "Finishing Touch" but they are expensive, thus mine still need to be redone. I have seen their work, fantastic. There's another place in Iowa that does a great job, can't remember their name though, I'll try to find it.

when sending a bumper out, will a company make repairs if asked to, such as removing small dents or cracks or does that have to go to another place for repairs and then to finishing?

I know that if you use 'Ogden Chrome', they will fix, straighten and replate your bumper to look just about like new.

Had both mine redone. First time $600.00 for both. Looked like crap and started peeling after 8-month's. Went back and he said no warranty, but will give me 10% off a re-do. I said are you F..... serious!!! 10% off of crap is still crap. Had them re-done by Pacific plating in triple plated "show chrome" and every little wrinkle hammered out perfectly straight.
Looks like jewellery. Cost ??? $3,000.00, Ouch it's the most noticable thing on the car besides the paint. Don't go cheap pay the man and make it right.

NorthStar out of the twin cities. Also there is a high end chrome shop in PA that all the NCRS (corvette) guys use.

The place in Iowa is Sioux City Plating. I had my 1969 Caddy bumpers done by them, and it was half the price of anywhere else, and they give you a "lifetime" guarantee.... Don't know if that means that they kill you if you bring it back or they will do it over again.. It no longer says "lifetime" on the website. I have sent them an email asking if it is still "lifetime" .. I also had the bumpers on my 1963 Chrysler done by Keystone about 5 years ago, and one bumper the plating started to peal after a year. They said to send it back, but I still haven't done it.. Don't have the ambition to take it off the car. Another good place is Tri City Plating in Tennessee. Prices are average, and also a lifetime guarantee..

I believe that you are referring to Qual Krom in Erie PA... I have had them do a lot of smaller pieces for me that had to be perfect, and they also repaired a large broken piece of die cast molding (1969 Cadillac hood molding) and rechromed it, that came out excellent. This is the type of part that is made of unobtainium. They also offer a "lifetime" warranty for as long as you own the car. They no longer do large bumpers. Great work, but very expensive. If it is an irreplaceable part, then that is where I send it. For parts that I don't want to spend a lot on, i use New England Plating. Good work, at a very reasonable price and quick turn around. They don't do bumpers. I have never used Sandy's Bumpers, however, I have never heard a bad word about them. People that I know that have used them, are very satisfied.

I was very happy with the results. They triple plated it (unlike the ones from Fusick). Id say its better than GM factory chrome but not show quality.

Yep its Pauls chrome plating inc out of Evans City. What was said specifically is there is two types of chrome NCRS looks for. Original style GM which isn't perfect plating for NCRS judged "top flight" cars then the triple show chrome which is without the desired imperfect OEM finish. Pauls does the high quality triple plating. Not sure if he does the other. I have had first hand experience with NorthStar before and after the KeyStone buy-out and the triple plating is up to my picky standards.
