four speed options

Hey guys
could anyone tell me was there an option to have a four speed with or with out the console on the 72 cutlass with bucket seats, I have recently purchased a 72 four speed without any hardware, the guy before me was trying to convert it into a automatic (not sure why anyone would do this)

trying to understand what I will need to buy far as hardware.

Yes, you could get the 4spd with or without console, even with bucket seats. The shifter mechanism and lever are different for non-console and console applications.

I could swear the Hurst mechanism is the same on 70-72, just the shift handle is different.

There's a thread on here with photos of the different shifters and handles, but I can't locate it right now.

70-72 mechanisms are the same except they have a diff part number stamped on the mechanism, because its an assy.....its an optical illusion, side by side they do look diff..pull the handles and you could mix them up
