Forgotten year forums?
Forgotten year forums?
Hi All,
Since it looks like the 73 to 77 Olds Forum (http://www.73-77olds.com/forums/index.php) mentioned on here before is struggling and doesn't seem to be maintained, does anyone know of other forums for our mid 70's oldsmobiles? Yeah, I could do a Google search, but I'm looking more for personal recommendations from the experts.
many thanks,
james

I've belonged to the G3GM forum for many years. Not as strong as it once was as many have migrated to various Facebook sites. It caters to all '73-'77 GM "A" body owners. Many similarities between the various models. Some Olds guys on the East Coast have also recently formed a Facebook site called Forgotten Years (1973-1977) Car Club open to any make GM "A" body owners of this era. I'm one of the few holdouts that don't do Facebook...so, have no idea how many members have joined up.

This is a common problem these days. Everything is moving to Facebook sadly. I started a Jetfire facebook page trying to promote the Jetfire forum but The facebook page is already far more active than the forum. Not sure there is a good answer.
It's because smartphones are so much easier to check into the FB page. However, forums still seem to provide better info and organization of topics than FB will ever provide.
I completely agree with that. Facebook has lots of bad information at times. It is set up so visual and simple that people just prefer it.

Not a lot of traffic on this site either. But it's another alternative.

Well, I can see why the "Forgotten Years" sites are struggling. Can't seem to get on board with them. One...I can't even preview their threads so I figure they are dead, or dying. There is a reason this site is moving forward while others are not.
With that said, sadly, there seems to be a lot of luck involved in finding parts / information regarding these mid-'70s Cutlass cars. Which surprises me if only from the aspect, that I have read, that the '76 / '77 Cutlass models years were the most popular cars of the day. Outselling all brands.

People become members on this site after "hearing" things on other sites, that they quickly learn was NOT accurate. Forgotten years ? There are forums that cover a variety of years or models here. We have people on here that can give you the correct answer or can find it. There have been people who buy or want certain parts or cars,as well as sellers. Got a problem ? Those are covered here also.
One stop for it all. Maybe thats why Classic Oldsmobile is still alive and functioning.

Not to bitch because I'm a happy camper.... but we don't even have a forum that states it is for first generation Oldsmobiles. We seem to get the word out for the Vintage Forum but I sometimes wonder if we lose people that don't look very far or get beyond the Newbie section. Come to think about it the only Cutlass I've had was a 78 and I just drove it till daughter totaled it, didn't learn a thing about it, still ignorant..... Tedd
I'm a happy camper too. I have owned as old as 1955 and as new as 1976. Post cars, hard tops, convertibles, station wagons, and little Starfire GT's. Now I have a 1957 "88", 1964 Starfire, 1966 Toronado, a 1970 Cutlass, and a1970 442 W-30. Repair, restoration, high performance and everything in between, its all here.
.........Just my two cents worth.
