Fords get no love....
While in one of my favorite junkyards today I found this recent arrival. A '69 Cougar xr7 with the complete tach & gauge cluster, along with buckets, floor shifter, hide away headlights, & probably a 9" rear. I thought I'd found something but after a quick check on ebay I see pretty much no one wants the dash pieces or the shifter.
If this was a '69 GM A body with tach & gauges, they would have been long gone or high priced. I'm not a big Ford fan but you would think stuff like this would be worth something?
I know the rear, if it's a 9" is but I didn't want to ask the price on that as the owner knows his parts.

Cougar vs Mustang is worse than Cutlass vs Chevelle. No love at all. Personally, I like regular coupe Cougars better than the Mustangs in the early years. I would like to see a fastback Cougar of that vintage.
Of course, I am always drawn to hideaway headlights.

It doesn't have the valuable grille. The pot metal tabs must have busted from vibration so they fabbed some bars. I'm building a '69 right now. I'd pull all those window mechanisms, that eye brow trim, and the glass. That's gold.

Oldcutlass is right about '67/'68 Cougars being more popular (I happen to be the proud owner of a '67 XR7), but there is a growing amount of interest in the '69/'70 as well; especially, the XR7's. Personally, the '69 is maybe the least favorite of these four yrs as I'm not a real fan of the continuous grill across the front...but, that's just me. These are under-appreciated, cool cars. I do believe there is some demand for the tach gauge cluster if the lenses are not cloudy (a nice one sold on e-Bay a couple wks ago for $189). Dash pads are in demand if they aren't damaged. Clock, seat belts, dash toggle switches...but, only if they're in nice condition. People pull the disc brake spindles and relevant hardware to convert their '67/'68 drums; including proportion valves. Might take a little longer to sell this stuff as there were only something like 24K XR7's made that year, but might be worth the gamble if the yard owner is reasonable with his prices.

I really dig these cars! Then again I dig almost anything with hide-a-ways. Dad had a 69 Country Squire Wagon winter beater, kool lookin sled. If its not rotten it should be saved...especially if by chance its a C or a CJ. But its likely a 351 car or it would be snatched up already....but you never know, always look.
