"Forced" to drive my cutlass

For the last 2 weeks I have been "forced" to drive my cutlass to and from work. My normal commuter car's ('02 Jetta) timing belt went out at speed and as is the case with most later model cars, took the engine with it. So, I've been driving the cutlass while a replacement engine was found and installed at my local garage.

This morning, I get the call stating that the replacement engine is bad also (2 dead cylinders). So I guess that I will just have to suck it up and drive my cutlass some more.

If there is a moral to this story it would probably be...if your engine's gonna die, it's best that it happens in the summer so that you can drive your '71 convertible to and from work.

Now, if I can just manage to avoid all of the crazy DC area drivers for another week or so.

So how many complaints have you had at work about that silly grin plastered across your face?

I will say that it makes sitting in bumber to bumper traffic for an hour each way almost bearable.

I drive mine mostly everyday. Somehow no matter how bad a day I have, I'm in a better mood by the time I hit the driveway.

I would be SOL if I were forced to drive mine during the summer. It stays parked during the summer, then I drive it all winter.
With the top down.

This is what summer in Phoenix looks like:

I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure if it just seems to be getting more attention as I drive it more or is it really getting more attention - its crazy the amount of people who go out of their way to compliment the car.

Yeah, but admit it (everyone), the attention is kinda cool.

Luckily, in the DC area we have been having the coolest summer in at least 15 years. Tomorrow it is supposed to be about 80 degrees with no humidity. Normally at this time of year, it's pushing 100 and the humidity is so high you feel like you need a shower as soon as you step outside.

The summer of 2001 I crashed my daily driver 1991 Quad 442 W-41 and was forced to drive my 70 442 Conv. to work every day. Gas was just over $1.00 a gallon and we had a drought that summer so there were multiple weeks when I never put the top up. On top of that I had just moved back from England where gas was $5/gallon and it rained almost every day so it was like Oldsmobile paradise!

I was still driving it to work on Sept 11th when our world changed forever. I heard about the first plane crash on the AM/FM radio on the way into work.

That doesn't keep the black vinyl seats from burning my butt and the nickel seat belt buckles from branding me!
