Font

Wondered if anyone knew what font the '70 models used for their scripts? Thought I'd have something embroidered using that style.

Also, was the font used on the 71-up cars the same as what Chevrolet used in the 70s? The big cursive C looks the same on Cutlass and Chevrolet. Maybe they wouldn't if I looked at them next to each other.

Thanks.

You mean something like this?

or this:

I doubt very much there was ever actually a name for the typestyle they used back at that time. Maybe just "Oldsmobile script?"

If I wanted something embroidered in the same style, I would take a photo of the script, like the above for example, print it out, and take it to whoever is doing the embroidery. That'd be the best thing you could do to guarantee that it would look the way you wanted it to.

Yep, I don't necessarily want to have "Cutlass" embroidered but I want the words to have the look of the 70 Cutlass script.

That bottom picture does look an awful lot like Chevrolet scripts. Might do that one later.

Some time ago I wanted to have something done in the style of the late model Corvair. Come to find out, the style it is written in is actually a font called Brush Script. So I figured Cutlass must be in a specific font as well.

I like the idea of printing out the style. If there is a font maybe they can match it up. Thanks Jaunty. What is a Jaunty?

Well, to many on classicoldsmobile.com, what a Jaunty is is probably unprintable.

But the word is actually an adjective ("jaunt" is the noun).

From thefreedictionary.com

1. Having a buoyant or self-confident air; brisk.
2. Crisp and dapper in appearance; natty.

Back about 15 years ago I owned a '75 Delta 88 convertible, and I put vanity license plates on it with that word on them.

Did you ever hear the phrase "out for a jaunt?" From the same source, the definition is

A short trip or excursion, usually for pleasure; an outing.
