Finally Replaced Motor Mount - Broken Bolts

I posted about the broken motor mount bolts some time ago in this thread:
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...unt-bolts.html

Yesterday I finally had time to tackle the job, and the weather was nice and warm so I didn't have to freeze in my unheated garage.

I first decided to drill them and use bolt extractors to back them out. I quickly changed my mind when I realized how small a space I had to work with and the drill bit kept walking across the bolt (even after being center punched). I ended up using a Dremel cut off wheel to slot them. They came out extremely easily, I was shocked. Just put a hex shank screw driver bit in a 1/4" socket and turned them right out. Got just a couple pics, before and after, none of the actual removal. Thanks for the suggestions in my original thread.

The side of the AC compressor used to touch the fender sometime, there is plenty of room now!

You can see where it touched in the past.

Going to replace the other mount soon, since it has been under heavy stress for a while, being the only connected mount.

It was probably all that extra oil running down that kept them well lubricated!

Heh heh, yeah, "extra oil", that's what I will call it from now on.

Gotta clean that up and replace valve cover gaskets/maybe oil pan gasket soon! It's embarrassing posting pics of such a filthy motor.

Were probably loose for a while - did you use lock washers?
Had 3 break on a 4.3 chevy 'serpentine bracket' while on the x-way - not fun!!
PO must of had it off - no lock washers!!

That doesn't sound like fun!

I did not use lock washers, when I took them off they just had some large flat washers on them, and I didn't see mention of lock washers in the CSM. I did torque them to the specified 75 ft/lbs though. Guess I will keep an eye on them for a while.

Anyone else think these new aftermarket motor mounts seem softer than the stock ones? Maybe it's just my imagination. I do see the engine wiggle a little while its idling. Once it's revved up a little it sits still though. Either way, it's better than just one mount! I could sit in the drivers seat with the hood open and put the car in gear and watch the snorkel on the air cleaner point up or down a good inch or two!

Shifts feel more solid while driving, and I can finally back the car up the driveway if I want to. It's somewhat steep and I tried it once before and got some nice fan to shroud contact, I let off and dropped it into neutral real quick.
