What is a good source for licensed re-print of a factory service manual? Can they be soured direct from the re-printer.
Thanks

Why not buy an original? They're out there and don't have the quality issues a lot of the reprints and especially the digital have.

Thanks for the reply. I agree original manuals are the best option.

Faxon Auto Literature on Ebay is where I got my service manuals for my 98.

I think it is a pretty good copy. Pics are clear and all pages are perfectly printed. I have no idea if it's missing any info as I don't have an original to compare it too but it sure looks complete.

Agree....ebay has many original factory manuals avail. Yes, most are well used. However, I have been lucky to find mint versions for my '68 442. Btw, I just purchased new, sealed factory GM shop manuals for my 1993 Grand Prix with the LQ1 engine.

One problem with reprints is that they are often in black-and-white only. This is fine until you get to the electrical wiring diagrams, which are in color for all of the various wires and makes it possible to actually trace them in the diagram. Trying to read black-and-white version of a wiring diagram is useless.

^^x2^^ Exactly - as it pertains to the CSM (Chassis Service Manual) wiring diagrams. They're essentially useless in B&W. Now then, the Fisher Body Service Manual and the Product Information Manual you can most likely get away with B&W copies - either reprint or digital. I have several of each - paperback PIM and Fisher Body (but I also have several digital copies of each). I think it depends on who you buy them from? My digital versions are fair to pretty good overall.

I did not know the wiring was in color.
That will be worth buying another book right there.

Anyone have an original for a 62 98?

Absolutely no idea if this is used OEM or a new reprint. I know Amazon has begun selling used stuff but the ad doesn't clearly state if it's used. It was just listed and states OEM. I'd reach out to ask before buying this one but here is the listing

Wiring diagrams and transmission hydraulics are both color in Oldsmobile manuals.👍

Chevrolet and a lot of Pontiac manuals have B&W wiring line diagrams. To their credit they do indicate wire colors and gages, but they're sure not as easy to read as our Oldsmobile books.

MikeyT- 62 is the year you have to have the 1961 manual AND the 1962 supplement. Only year Oldsmobile did that.

Here's one on eBay which specifically states Used. It's about what you might expect to pay for some of these. I paid similar for a couple of mine. Harder they are to find the more $$ generally. But there's no better manual.

A little overboard on price>>>https://www.ebay.com/itm/37541179392...94jN03ITCzn32k

I'm not 100% on the info rocketraider provided but he know his ****. I found this 1961 below which he mentioned maybe that's the supplement thing he meant?

I'm confused but that's normal

Correct. I have the reprints but had no idea the originals had color wiring diagrams.
The reprints state the color but it's about as legible as hyroglyhphics.
I found one for 35 shipped.

That is the reprint I have. It's a good book just all black and white.

61-62 are weird. There was 1961 88 and 98 manual, 1961 Starfire supplement, 1961 FSC second printing, 1961 F85, 1962 supplement to the 61 FSC book, and 1962 F85. I think there's probably a 1962 Jetfire supplement too. But there are no better manuals for your Oldsmobile.

^^X2 Faxon has great scope of product for many years, many makes, and many models. You can buy directly from their website or through eBay.
