Experiencing Mecum auctions

Hey guys, my 77 year old mother is a big car buff - she has a 62 Starfire. I’d like to take her to her first auction - ive never been to one myself. We want to go to Kissimmee Fl in January. I’m aware I can get a OCA discount $100 bidders pass that comes with a guest. But If I buy a regular admission ticket, what kind of access does that give you? Is that ticket get you in the block /bidding area at least far in the back? Or any other access that is limited with general admission? We really want to walk around and see the cars close up not necessarily watch the auction block - which I can see on TV.
I hear it’s a 7 day auction. What days are best to see the most cars? Thanks. —Billy

Going to the auction with a general admission ticket will get you what you want if you're not bidding. Best day to attend the auction is the first day.

Mecum Kissimmee is a blast, especially if you’re not selling or buying. There are huge tents on the grounds full of cars - and if you're ambulatory and able to walk around you’ll have plenty to look at. As mentioned above the best days are early, and the variety of vehicles is tremendous. Osceola Heritage Park is a great wide open venue, lots of outdoor space - it’s more fun being outside these days versus being jammed inside with a bunch of people. Enjoy!

That is really cool. You are lucky to have a mother, and then to top it off, a mother that is a car mom!!

Enjoy!!

The cars generally get more expensive as the auction builds to a climax then they scale back until it is over. Getting there early you will have access to all of the tents with cars in them and you can get close to most of the cars.

I have been to Mecum Kissimmee a few times - the last was 2020 when they auctioned off Steve McQueens Bullitt Mustang. It’s a great auction and a great time. Lots of amazing cars in all shapes and condition. Your regular admission ticket will get you access to pretty much everything. Friday the 14th of January will probably be the big auction day. You can check on the Mecum website to see the available lots and what days they will be going up for auction. The Bullitt Mustang went on the block on a Friday afternoon in 2020.

The Bidders Pass allows you on the block itself and access to some food and beverages. I believe alcohol and food are included with that pass. The regular pass gives you access to just about everything that you probably want to see. There might be an exotic tent that you need a Bidders Pass for. There are plenty of food options set up - a large food court under a tent.

I’m going again this year. Also going to spend one day at the Kennedy Space Center which is only an hour away. Have a great time with your Mom - you’re going to have a great time - and the weather should be nice.
